The Doobie Brothers Join the Rock Hall of Fame

24 Years After Rock Hall Eligibility, The Doobie Brothers Get Their Due

Doobie Math

  • The Doobie Brothers’ first record was out in 1971

  • You are eligible for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame after 25 years (from first album’s release)

  • The Doobie Brothers have been eligible since 1996

  • It is now 2020.

  • What?!

With the 2020 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony cancelled due to COVID, the poor Doobie Brothers had to make their accept speeches from their living rooms. I know, perspective, we’re in a pandemic. And, they have had years of being on stage in front of an adoring crowd, so I guess they’ll cope.

I am a slightly new DB fan after diving (pun!) into Yacht Rock during this summer. I listed the Doobie Brothers as one of the best Yacht Rock bands with my man Michael McDonald as top Yacht Rocker.

You’ll have to tune in to HBO to see the full Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and it’s totally worth it to see the mention of The Doobie Brothers on What’s Happening (!!!)

They threw ya a bone, however and let you watch Tom Johnston, Patrick Simmons and Yacht Rock king and man with the silkiest, most soulful voice of them all, Michael McDonald give thanks from their homes. Now start judging their decor:
