Which Bands From the ‘80s Have Been Together the Longest?

There are several bands who are still together since the ‘80s, but few have the same line-up.

U2 - 44 Years

Duran Duran - 42 Years

Duran Duran hit the big time in the ‘80s with five members- Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Andy Taylor and Roger Taylor. DD was formed a few years earlier with other musicians, with Simon the last of the Fab Five to join what we know as Duran Duran, in 1980. At some point in the ‘80s Roger left, then came back as did Andy. Various other musicians had a turn in the band. The current line-up (Simon, Nick, Roger, John) have been together since 2001.

Depeche Mode - 42 Years

Bon Jovi has been a band since forming in New Jersey in 1983, but lead guitarist Richie Sambora leaving in 2013 means the current group has only been together for 9 years.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers were founded in 1983, Anthony Kiedis, Flea and Chad Smith have been together since 1988. They’ve had several lead guitarists over the years with the most current being John Frusciante rejoining the band in 2019 after being part of the group off and on for years.

1970 is when Aerosmith became a band. At one point Joe Perry and Brad Whitford left, both returning in 1984. It is not clear if the band is still together as there have been rumors over the years that they broke up.

The B-52s were formed in 1976 but only lead singer Fred Schneider has been with the group the entire time.
